Community Centres not only for Retirees! Community Matters Monday June 14th!
Kathryn and Sanna, 2 staff working from Community Centres located in the South of Salisbury dispel the myth that Community Centres are only for retirees by discussing the range of child and youth activities, programs and services that are currently available from across the City of Salisburys Youth and Neighbourhood Services Program.
This includes a comprehensive look at the diverse range of school holidays programs that are on offer for the July holiday period as well as some of the one-off, short term and ongoing activities that are available for children, youth and families.

Pooraka community centre featured on Monday 14th June 10am
On today's Community Matters we have with us Heather Hewitt who is the Neighbourhood Development Coordinator of Pooraka Farm Community Centre.
Heather has brought with her a special guest, Ian Lorray, a vietnam veteran, who talks about programs he has helped run, such as the excellent 'Seeds of Attainment' program.
She also reviews the Community Cultural Day which happened recently, as well as looking at some upcoming programs such as:-
- Drumming Program
- Line Dancing
- Roaming Books program
And as always, some awesome co-host selected music!

The Mawson Centre features on radio 7th June 2010 10am, PBA FM 89.7 and streaming online at www.pbafm.org.au
Today on Community Matters we have with us Annie Payne, the Learning Development Coordinator of The Mawson Centre. Annie talks about an upcoming Community Safety Expo which focuses on Home Safety, especially for the elderly. This will focus on fire safety, cyber safety, medication, etc.
We also have a chat about Walking Groups in Salisbury as well as some new programs including:-
- Chess Club- Meditation
- Bollywood Dancing
- Self Defence
- and more!
We also discuss how more and more centres have programs which are TAFE accredited, making it more exciting to learn accross Salisbury.
